Do you have a leaking water heater?
It is a very stressful situation when a water heater bursts and water is everywhere! So it is important to stop the flow of water to a leaking water heater as soon as possible. Even if the leak is small at first, the water heater can burst at any moment which can cause property damage!
What to do to Stop a Leaking Water Heater
Now, there is no need to be overly concerned. Chances are that the water heater does need to be replaced, but there is a way to stop a leaking water heater until a plumber arrives. Since emergency situations like a leaking water heater can arise at any moment, you need to be prepared to take immediate action! Please refer to the “Stop a Water Heater From Leaking” video to show you exactly how to shut off the water to a leaking unit.
*If the water heater does not have a shut off valve, or if the shutoff valve is broken. Then you may want to turn off the main water supply to the house to prevent the leaking water heater from causing damage to the home. Even though most water heaters in Las Vegas are located in the garage, the stand can be damaged and so could the wall around it. Additionally, the water can seep into the opposing walls and into the home.
Once the water is shut off from the leaking water heater, you may also want to drain the unit if it has water left in it. The shut off valve only prevents more water from going into the unit. Unless the water heater has leaked all of the water out of it, there will be water inside which will continue to leak out of it.
If you follow these important steps, you will minimize the damage that could be caused by a leaking water heater. According to CAU, there are also other ways to minimize water damage from a leaking water heater.
